The house in Lawrence Estates a few miles north of Boston includes a massive fireplace

The 3,016-square-foot 35 Westvale Road is part of a Medford neighborhood called Lawrence Estates that went up fairly quickly about a century ago. Two-story houses in the colonial, Tudor, and Dutch colonial styles define the enclave, according to the Medford Historical Commission.

The house herein is of the Tudor variety and dates from 1920. It’s now on sale for $938,800 through Keller Williams.

It’s indicative of not only the spaciousness available just a few miles from Boston’s border but of how the wider Boston region preferred single-families and smaller multi-families for decades—to the detriment of shoppers in the tight and expensive housing market of today.

In any case, 35 Westvale is a stately affair, with a large brick fireplace in the living room and plenty of built-in shelves. There are four bedrooms and two bathrooms, and the exterior is positively storybook.
